About Barrow-in-Furness Train Station

Opened in 1846 as the terminus of the Furness Railway, Barrow in Furness station was completely rebuilt in 1882 to reflect the towns growing importance as an industrial center.

The impressive Victorian buildings featured ornate ironwork and a large overall roof, symbolizing the railways role in Barrows shipbuilding and steel industries.

Severely damaged during WWII bombing raids, the station was reconstructed in the 1950s with functional modern facilities.

Today, it serves as the main rail gateway to the Furness peninsula, connecting this historic industrial town to the wider Cumbrian network and beyond.
