Train Delays & Service Disruptions

When you choose to travel by train, it’s more than a journey. That’s why, if things don’t go to plan, you need the best information as quickly as possible.

The rail industry’s 'Smarter Information, Smarter Journeys' program aims to achieve a step-change in customer experience through the provision of better customer information and by providing customers with all the information, including concise information on train delays and planned future service disruptions, they want when and how they want it.

Current Train Delays & Disruptions

To view all current train delays, service disruptions and planned future engineering works that could affect your train journey please refer to this National Rail web page.

Delay Repay Compensation

If you are traveling and arrive late at your destination due to a cancelled or delayed service, you may be able to claim compensation.

Similarly if your train has been delayed by 30 minutes or more you may claim compensation from the train operating company. It is easy to claim compensation that may usually be done online up to 28 days from the day. We do however advise making your claim within 48 hours of the delay to help the train company process your claim more quickly.

Delay Repay compensation must be made directly with the train company that you traveled with. This can usually be completed online, or via a paper claim form available at the ticket counter at your arrival station.

Refunds for Cancelled / Delayed Trains

You can get a refund for your unused train ticket, with no fees, if your train is delayed or cancelled and you decide not to travel.

If you want to get a refund for another reason, you may have to pay a fee. See our ticket types page or our refund page for more information.

Use the booking form below if you need to re-book or purchase a new train ticket for a delayed or cancelled journey.
